Maximizing Kitchen Storage in a Campervan 🚐🔨 Maximizing Kitchen Storage in a Campervan 🚐🔨 these kitchen cabinets are a huge upgrade from our last build. We’re using ¾” maple plywood, pocket hole joinery, and some fun design features to make the most of this space—including a pop-up coffee bar 🤭 Here are a few things we’ve learned about building cabinets: ✅ Stronger is better – Your cabinets need to handle the daily earthquake of vanlife. 🔨 Pocket holes + wood glue are solid. This combo held up exquisitely through some questionable driving experiences in our first two years of vanlife 😅 📦 Plan storage BEFORE building and get creative with the space – We’re designing these cabinets around what’s going inside them. Things like drawers for pots and pans, a place for a cooktop, convenient pantry storage, and yes, even a pop up coffee bar if you want to get fancy Would you add any clever storage features to a van kitchen? Van Build Mistakes We’re Not Making Twice 🚐🛠️ In our first van, we thought we knew what layout would work for us when we started building… but we ended up learning our lesson with a convertible bed and less than functional cabinet storage the hard way 😅 Here’s how you can do it right: ✅ Plan before you build – We designed each cabinet in our new van around what’s actually going inside to avoid wasted space. We will have a slide out pantry, storage for pots and pans, and even a pop up coffee bar 🤭 💧 Work with your layout, not against it – Our fresh water tanks sit over the wheel wells and take up space beyond the bed so we custom-built around them to maximize the space. 🥶 Upgrade where it matters – This time, we’re prioritizing a bigger fridge/freezer for full-time living and we are SO excited. We had a large fridge but tiny freezer before and could never store enough popsicles, ice cream, or frozen foods. 📐 Be intentional with storage – Every inch counts in a van, so we’re maximizing vertical space while keeping the layout open.
